About Physical Medicine and Rehab

Physical Medicine and Rehab (PM&R) physicians, also known as physiatrists, treat a wide variety of medical conditions affecting the brain, spinal cord, nerves, bones, joints, ligaments, muscles and tendons. Services are offered at our Rehab Center located on State Road 129 in Batesville.

At MMH, our PM&R team provides integrated care aimed at recovery of the whole person by addressing the individual's physical, emotional, medical, vocational and social needs. They also frequently collaborate with orthopedic and spine surgeons, as well as other specialists, to provide comprehensive care.

Common Reasons to See a Physiatrist:

  • Evaluation and management of muscle, joint and nerve disorders, including:
    • Spine disorders
    • Peripheral joint disorders
    • Osteoarthritis
    • Ligament and tendon disorders
    • Neuropathy
    • Myofascial pain
    • Spinal cord injuries

    • Cubital tunnel syndrome
    • Lumbar or cervical radiculopathy

Treatment Options:

PM&R specialists use a non-surgical approach when caring for patients. Common treatment options include rehab services, medication management and injections.

Rehab Services:

Our PM&R specialist works closely with our rehab team to help patients achieve optimal results. Following injury or illness, physical and occupational therapy are both incredibly effective at improving mobility, strength, coordination and overall quality of life.

Medication Management:

Whether prescribed alone or in conjunction with rehab, medications can help manage pain, reduce inflammation, improve muscle function and address other symptoms related to physical disabilities or injuries.

Injections:

Injections can be useful in the management of many conditions, including joint pain, muscle spasms and nerve pain. In addition to providing pain relief, they can also reduce inflammation.
