Swim Safety Tips

We love summer! Warm temperatures and sunny skies make it the perfect time to get outside and take your kids for a swim. But while playing in water is a favorite summer pastime, swimming has its dangers. Read the following tips to prevent child drowning and ensure swim safety:

  1. Always supervise children when they are in or near water.
  2. Keep rescue equipment, such as a life preserver, near the pool.
  3. Teach children to never run, push or jump on others near water.
  4. Teach children to swim at an early age.
  5. Use life jackets or other flotation devices when appropriate.
  6. Install barriers around pools and hot tubs, such as fences and gates.
  7. Teach children to stay away from pool drains and suction outlets.
  8. Ensure all pool and hot tub covers are in good condition and functioning properly.
  9. Make sure adults are trained in CPR.
  10. Enter the water feet first. Injuries can occur when kids jump or dive headfirst into shallow water.
