On April 23, 2018 Margaret Mary Health (MMH) implemented a new integrated electronic health record (EHR) platform with Cerner, a global leader in health care technology. An electronic health record is the collection of patient health information in a digital format that can be shared among multiple health care providers and organizations. This new EHR provides the hospital with sophisticated health care technology that will support MMH doctors, nurses and staff as they work to improve patient care, individual well-being and community health.
“Our new EHR will support MMH as it provides comprehensive care to the community through its emergency services, family practice medical services, outpatient rehab, lab, imaging, acute care and more,” said Tim Putnam, President and CEO of MMH. “There is a learning curve to this new platform for our staff, but I am confident in a very short time we will be able to streamline the patient experience by having one EHR across the organization, ultimately leading to safer care and improved outcomes.”
The new EHR also provides a new online patient portal, where individuals can securely message providers, request prescription refills, obtain lab and imaging results, manage office appointments, view and settle bills and access their health history anywhere, anytime with the mobile app. With an easy-to-use platform, the patient portal is designed to increase patient engagement and encourage people to take an active role in managing their health.
According to Dr. Michelle Shorten, MMH Family Medicine Physician, “Having the ability to view a near real-time digital record of a patient’s complete health history will certainly lead to improved individual treatment plans and positive patient outcomes in our community, especially for those who require more complex care.”
