Located on the second floor of the Margaret Mary Outpatient and Cancer Center, our endoscopy facility includes two state-of-the-art endoscopy suites, as well as 10 prep/recovery rooms. For your comfort, each room includes its own TV and DVD player, and a centrally-located nourishment center is available in case your family needs a drink or snack while waiting.
During an endoscopy, a flexible tube with a powerful light and tiny camera is inserted into your body. There are different types of endoscopies. If you’re 45 and older, your doctor will likely recommend you have a colonoscopy, which is the most effective way to screen for colon cancer. Please be sure to verify coverage with your insurance provider.
At Margaret Mary, we understand receiving an endoscopy can be intimidating, especially for first-timers. Which is why our nurses take great care to make you as comfortable as possible, while respecting your privacy. Our patients frequently comment on how their exam was much easier than expected.
Endoscopies are commonly used to evaluate:
- Stomach/chest pain
- Ulcers
- Difficulty swallowing
- Reflux
- Polyps
- Bleeding
- Changes in bowel habits
